A Message to District Parents, Families and Community
Having reviewed the recent rumors that surfaced in the social media, we determined that no credible threat existed and started our school day with no disruption of our mission. Our school district has a highly visible security force with two armed school police officers on campus on a daily basis, so our “business as usual” is not the same as it is in most other districts. We are committed to providing the highest level of security every day. Thank you.

AP Honor Roll
The College Board is pleased to share the exciting news that South Side High School has earned a position this year on the 5th Annual AP District Honor Roll! The annual AP District Honor Roll recognizes districts for increasing access to Advanced Placement course work while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams. SSHS is one of only 9 high schools in southwestern PA, and only 41 (of 635) high schools state-wide to receive this very prestigious honor.
CCBC Aviation Academy
In January, CCBC will launch its Aviation Academy, the first program in the region that gives high school students a head start on earning college credits while receiving training in aviation. Students in grades 10- 12 will be able to choose between four pathways, including professional pilot, air traffic control, aerospace management and unmanned aerial vehicles. With the program, students will spend half of the day in high school and the other half taking courses in science, technology, engineering and math taught by CCBC faculty on campus at the college's new Aviation Sciences Center in Chippewa. Mrs. Tammy Adams, Superintendent, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony today held at the Center. South Side High School students will be able to learn more about the program when representatives from CCBC visit in November.
